Gill Harris Long Mynd Tops Challenge Round

On Saturday 12/06/10, Rick Robson and myself under took the first recorded attempt at the Gill Harris Long Mynd Tops Challenge Round, I promise to write a full article for the next Mercia Newsletter, but I just wanted let it be known, that Rick and myself decided to put Nicks Kingstons thought into action, and start the ball rolling, with a round of all the named high point within the open access area of the Long Mynd, and as the round was to be named in memory of our late friend Gill, we thought it fitting, the round should also include her finger post on High Park,  Nick Kingston was

Nick,
your challenge looks great mate; need to get out there and do it asap. Route choices are interesting as well. Can I suggest that you add the GH fingerpost as a checkpoint.

10 days to go

I passed on my first Meirionnydd date, so missed the Bala Beano link up. Weather wasn't brilliant plus a niggly injury.
So it's looking like 22 May ....

Dark Peak 15 Trigs

I ran this 55mi, 8500ft route yesterday with Mary Gillie (Clwydians), in 13:07.  Great day out, perfect conditions with high cloud, cool breeze and the peat drier than we dared hope given how wet it's been.

RobW - The Fellrunning years!

My mate Myrddyn Phillips has taken to interviewing hill people.  This video was recorded on the day of the Club Dinner as it happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZmp4vOTkyU

Very snowy Meirionnydd recce

Text from Bill Williamson late Thurs eve: Lots of snow here Rob, may need a rethink on distance. Well a bit late to cancel and anyway he was there already. Luckily David Waide managed to get hold of the latest spec Range Rover from work...

My 720 mile challenge

As a celebration of my 60th year on this planet I've decided to race 1 mile for every month I've been alive: 60 * 12 = 720 - simple.

I've set some rules: the miles must be off-road, so road race don't count, they must be part of a recognised race with a mass start and a pre-defined distance (barring getting lost!), so mountain marathons don't count, and the races must be 10 miles or more, so the Shropshire summer series doesn't count.

noonstone

Does anyone want a lift to Todmorden for the Noonstone on Saturday 27th Feb. It is an English Champs counter. 9m 2300ft. Parking is limited and they are urging car share wherever possible. Email me on c.j.w@zen.co.uk or telephone 07976 290027 Colin Williamson

Ultra Summit #50

I bagged my 50th Ultra-prominence* summit 2 weeks ago in France , closely followed by #51 (Gran Canaria) and #52 (Madeira) - anything to delay the onset of winter!  Reports:-

Pico de las Nieves: http://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=88080 (an interesting rock climb)
