AGM

Mercia held their Annual AGM at The Stiperstones Inn following the Little Stretton to Stiperstones Time Trial, Bob Dredge the Clubs Chairman addressed the assembled members and gave a brief run down of the Clubs performance on and off the fell over the last 12mths, Tony Thompson circulated a copy of the Clubs accounts and Jess Taylor added comments from Secretaries angle, debate was had on several topical issues from staging a relay race between Shropshire Clubs to Club Kit, The Constitution, Club Championships (See Discussion Forum), Junior Sections, All Officers and Committee Members wher

Time Trial

This years Time Trial again brought out Mercia runner in their droves, the main event was eclipsed by Jill Leventon & Pauline Richards doing it as a Pair to celebrate their pensionable status, it was decided they should team up to prevent the two 60 year olds running each other into the ground in their race to be the first Senior Senior Lady over the line. Their arrival at the finish was greeted by a big notice that congratulated them on their achievement and welcomed them as the Time Trial Chicks (and a bottle of champagne).

Mercia Championships after 15 Races 4/11/07

­With still one more race to go in The Mercia Championships the club has a new champion, Tom Owens has romped away with the Club Trophy having been the leading Mercia runner home in 5 of the selected races and second in 7 more, Pete Vale looks like coming in second, the rest of ­the positions are more likely to be decided on who turns up at the last race than anything else. The turn out has been disappointing for the Championship again this year, maybe its time to look for a whole new concept!

Original Mountain Marathon 28/10/07

Mercia were well represented again this year at OMM the new name for KIMM, 16 members braved the high winds heavy rain, nearly all completed with Pete Vale and Tom Owens being the stars, the two competing together in the Elite for the first time, finished 5th against a quality field, Gill Harris and Keith Richards also finished in a podium position been the 1st mixed pair in ‘A’ Class, Mercia competitors were : Pete Vale, Tom Owens, Keith Richards, Gill Harris, Pauline Richards, Duncan Jones, Ian Cowie, Glen­n Davies, Harold Wyber, J

FRA Relays 13/10/07

­Our Relay team consisting of Pete Vale and Tim Werrett (1st leg), Harold Whyber (2nd), Graham Gristwood and Roland Stafford (3rd ) and Ton Owen (4th) put up a superb performance at Bowland, but no luck again this year, the Club slipped slightly from the 2nd we have managed over the last two years.

Mercia Do The Double at Hike 7/10/07

This years Longmynd Hike saw a strong field enter from Mercia Fell Runners, 14 runners from the Club stood on the start line. Members of the club did well picking up the top prizes too with Andy Davies winning overall in a new record time of 7:51, Gill Harris knocked 20mins off the previous ladies record time to win in a time of 10:01.

Joe & Terry Do The Double 7/10/07

At this year’s Longmynd Hike Mercia members Joe Faulkner and Terry Davies decided to go one better, 40 years ago their fathers inaugurated the first Longmynd Hike and to celebrate the occasion they did the Hike not only once but twice, yes 100 miles just for fun?
