COVID-19 impact on group runs

Many of you will be aware there was a slight relaxation of the Coronavirus lockdown regulations in England effective from today, 1st June 2020.

The new regulations specify that the maximum number of people who can meet in England is six. England Athletics advice is that coached groups can now comprise up to five athletes plus a coach, provided distancing is observed. A risk assessment must also be in place.

Without a risk assessment or any means of controlling numbers attending, neither the (informal, non-club) Tuesday sessions nor the Thursday sessions can be guaranteed to fall within the regulations. As such, the Mercia Thursday sessions normally held at various venues across our area will remain suspended until we can put in place suitable measures or the regulations are further relaxed.

The best we can suggest is that you organise your own private meet-ups, but please keep within the regulations and do not wear Club colours. We'd especially ask our athletes to be sensitive in area where high visitor numbers are already causing issues with local residents, particularly in and around Church Stretton and the Wrekin. We are, of course, heavily reliant on the goodwill of many of these residents and the landowners to stage races.

Many thanks, enjoy your running, and keep visiting here for news of more challenges etc. to keep everyone fit and "sharp".
